In the cup
The cup opens with floral notes and winegums, carried by a soft acidity. As it cools, orange sorbet and brown sugar emerge. A lingering tea-like aftertaste develops throughout. While we recommend a resting period of four to six weeks, the coffee can be enjoyed from week two onwards — though we suggest avoiding the period between weeks three and four.
About the bean
SL28 and SL34 varietals are cultivated on small half-acre family plots of around 200 coffee trees. The scale gives producers close control over their harvests, allowing them to pick only the ripest cherries. After handpicking, cherries are delivered to Muthua-ini Factory, a wet mill operated by the Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society, where they are sorted, depulped, fermented, and washed. Once washing is complete, the coffee is soaked overnight in clean water to develop the classic flavours of the Kenyan washed process.
